Too much alcohol increases acetaldehyde production (a toxic by-product of alcohol breakdown) that harms liver cells. It also promotes free radical formation, increases the need for vitamins B and C, and acts as a diuretic causing the kidney to excrete more fluid and minerals such as zinc, magnesium and potassium.
