Steam detoxification is one of the most effective treatments for ridding your body or pollutants and toxins. As your pores open up and millions of sweat glands start to excrete, the body rids itself of waste products through increased perspiration.

We Live In A Sea Of Toxins..

It Is A Toxic World
We live in a sea of toxins. Worldwide, exposure to chemical pollutants continues to increase, resulting in increased contamination of our air, water and food supply. In the developed world wise laws have been passed and often even enforced which have led to reductions in air and water pollution of several known toxins, yet at the same time thousands of new and untested "bio-active" chemicals are being introduced. Likewise, science continues to discover new health threats from existing chemicals, such as endocrine system impairments from estrogen-mimicking pesticides.

Health Care or Disease Management?
As has often been noted, what the media, doctors and insurance companies call health care is, in fact, disease management. And frequently this disease management results in a downward spiral for the individual who never regains true, vibrant health again.

Where The Toxic In Your Body Comes From?
The largest circle, and the one over which you have the least immediate control, is your community. The type of toxic exposure experienced at the community level can vary widely depending on whether you live in an urban, suburban or rural environment. Urban residents face increased exposure to lead, to air-borne particulates from diesel engines, and to contamination from industrial sites. Suburban residents run the risk of air pollution from commuting or chemical exposures from golf courses and gardens, while rural residents are more likely to encounter high levels of fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides.

High Blood Pressure?
James F. Balch, M.D., and Phyllis A. Balch, C.N.C., authors of Prescription for Nutritional Healing recommend fasting for three to five days a month for those suffering from high blood pressure. Those who are motivated to change their lifestyle will find numerous less strenuous forms of detox on this site that can achieve the same effect over a somewhat longer period of time, but that are much easier to endure. The dietary suggestions the book gives for high blood pressure are similar to the Healthy Diet offered on this site. Caution must be exercised: High blood pressure is one of the leading causes of death in the United States and for those who suffer from it, there are many specific guidelines in reference to over-the-counter medications, supplements, herbs, foods, and food additives that must be observed to prevent stroke and heart attack.

Love Your Liver
We all have an inbuilt detox system. Cleansing organs include the digestive tract, the urinary system, the skin, and the liver. You probably rarely think about your liver, and it rarely complains, unlike an aching muscle, fluttering heart or a groaning gut. But it is busy producing heat, balancing cholesterol, processing proteins, making bile, activating hormones and storing vitamins. It is also responsible for detoxifying most of the chemicals we come into contact with, such as natural food toxins, alcohol, cigarette smoke, and household chemicals.

Common Toxic: Aluminum
Not by definition a heavy metal but definitely to be avoided. Aluminum is perhaps the most serious toxin in our environment. By far the most serious threat is the use of alum to take the cloudiness out of drinking water. Other sources are antacids and food additives such as aerating or raising agents. The body has several systems in place to prevent it from reaching the brain as, once past the blood-brain barrier it is more neurotoxic than cadmium or mercury. If you are pregnant or lactating then avoid. Like lead it has been implicated in behavioral problems.

Sauna Detox: The Finnish Got The Idea First…
In Finland, sauna-bathing is a way of life. They say it gives them as much strength as rest or sleep. Most people think of the finnish sauna as a dry heat bath, but in fact, the Finns throw water on the the hot stones that warm the sauna to create what is known as "loyly," a sudden burst of steam that creates a moist heat in the sauna. According to an old proverb, the steam sauna was called "the hospital of the poor" and "the medicine of the poor" and "the medicine of Finland." The steam bath has been enjoyed for the benefits of total relaxation of mind and body; to ease stress; relieve muscle tension and stiff joints; sweat out body toxins; stimulate circulation; increase body metabolism; keep skin glowing and youthful and to alleviate sinus congestion due to colds, asthma or allergies.

Steam Sauna Resources In A Nutshell...

During a 10-20 minute sauna session, your heart rate increases by 50-75%. This provides the same metabolic result as physical exercise. The increased cardiac load is the equivalent to a brisk walk. There is a nominal effect on blood pressure because the heat also causes blood vessels in skin to expand to accommodate increased blood flow.
